Our Story

Growing a family and a farm from the market

What began as a simple roadside stand has grown into something much bigger, while still keeping its humble roots.

The first stand was nothing more than a door propped on two blocks, holding a bushel basket of sweet corn. Over time, that small beginning grew into what Freund’s Farm Market is today.

Now, the market includes a farm store, bakery, greenhouse, and catering kitchen, all set in the middle of our family’s working dairy farm. Every part of it reflects years of growth, care, and commitment to the land.

Theresa joined the Freund family in 1979 as a farmhand. In 1982, she married the youngest son, Matthew, and soon found herself balancing farm life with raising a growing family. As her family expanded from two to four to six, Theresa shifted her focus from milking cows to building a market that could grow alongside them.

In 1995, the market moved from the front yard to the backyard, taking up residence in the red post and beam barn that still stands today. Inside, the space is filled with seasonal produce, local goods, baked treats, and farm favorites that change throughout the year.

Today, the next generation is very much part of the story. You will often find Theresa’s youngest daughter, Rachel, overseeing the greenhouse or managing the market. What started as a small stand has truly become a family affair, rooted in tradition and carried forward together.
