Winter Hours

Our 5 Favorite Things

1. Apple Cider Donuts

You keep asking for them so we keep making them. Instead of making apple cider donuts a seasonal offering, we store lots of cider through the winter and spring so that we can keep the donut robot running and filling those cravings for donuts.

2. Harney & Sons Tea

When the morning temperatures start out at 1 degree, there are few things that deliver warmth and comfort like a hot mug of horchata, milky oolong or hot cinnamon spice! With nearly 2 dozen tea flavors to choose from, we've made this our feature display to remind you to get cozy!

3. Quiche

Our typical batch of quiche requires 32 eggs and quite a bit of half n' half. Blended with salt, pepper and nutmeg and a generous serving of cheddar and swiss cheeses. We haven't decided whether we like quiche more for breakfast or lunch, it seems to suit either meal perfectly.

We usually have a variety of flavors with and without meat. If you have a specific request for select vegetables or meats, just give us a call to place an order: 860-824-0650. We can even make a gluten free quiche available for specialty orders.

4. CowPots

This will come as no surprise! But we really do get excited when January rolls around and we can transform a corner of the market to feature CowPots. If you don't know by now, these renewable, recycled and biodegradable pots are made here using digested and composted cow manure. Better than peat and way more sustainable than plastic. There are now 15 sizes to choose from and if you let us know the style and quantity you're looking for, we can have your pots ready for your seed starting needs.

5. Local Honey

Whether you add a tablespoon of honey to your hot tea, enjoy a spoonful to manage allergies, replace sugar in recipes with honey or are into making your own fire cider to ward off illness, we have a number of local producers that supply our market with honey. Our sweet honey offerings are coming from Old Drone Apiary, V's Bees, and House of Tonic.

Local and In Season

It can feel hard to find local and in season products when it is January in Connecticut. We want to remind you that there are still plenty of local foods that are very much in season. Our dairy products from Arethusa Farm, Ronnybrook Farm and Cabot Creamery are coming from as close as 30 min away and as far as 4 hours away. Did you know that milk travels from farm to store within 48 hours! Now that's fresh! Dairy and eggs are in season and fresh everyday of the year.

We also still have plenty of winter squash, potatoes and apples that were harvested this past fall. Mead's maple syrup is harvested from just a couple miles away. The meats stocked in our freezer are from Canaan and Goshen farms.

Soup Loyalty Cards

Whether you are buying hot soup, cold soup or even frozen soup, pick up our soup loyalty card and for every 5 pints of soup, you'll get your 6th pint free.

Cat Shenanigans

a series of a series

Some of us are enjoying this 18 degree morning with fresh snow fall more than others. It turns out this weather is not just for the birds....it's also for the cats!

Sending you and your family best wishes for a healthy new year!
